How can i keep spiders out of my house?

On the sit up auction channels they are selling a pest deterrent which you plug in and it sends a signal out that spiders don't like. They are quite expensive even on there but mine have been worth their weight in gold, I haven't seen a spider this year! Yaay, lol:)-
