Whys people smuggling bad?

Ok i have to write a letter to the editor about the issue of people smuggling for my ignment. Now i cant really figure out the main issue of people smuggling. Does that relate to illegal Immigrants? and what impact does illegal immigrants have when they come into our country. I need to find out bad causes and risk it could do to our country so i can write my editorial.
