because "life" also has positive and negative aspects. in order to get the best understanding of the french revolution you need to see the good things that came out of it as well as the bad things. you know the phrase "you learn from your mistakes" ? well that is basically the french revolution. they learned they need to throw out the monarchy because of the unfair treatment of the common man. they hoped for better, they created fraternity, however they got what they wanted with violence which created much fear. but from that they also recovered.
